Footwork is so crucial in martial arts training or self-defence. You want to be able to hone the skill of movement to keep dancing around your opponent, not get strung by any of their strikes, and to eventually counter back and throw them off.

Although long combinations might not typically work in your average fight or competition, it's still a great way to practice striking quickly and keeping up with that momentum, not giving your opponent a chance to strike back.
